Store Manager
For the store manager role, you'll have a few interviews. It's usually 2-3 phone calls and then one in-person meeting. You'll meet with some current store managers from other stores, the district manager, and the regional manager. They're trying to see what you're passionate about and if you'd be a good fit for the company. There's an online application 'test' that points out your strengths and weaknesses, and they use that to tailor the interview questions for you. Make sure to really focus on the company's values like community, fair trade, no animal testing, promoting self-esteem, using natural ingredients, and protecting the planet. Talk about how these values are important to you and how you live them out.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered with an associate, detailing the events, the resolution, and the steps you took to avoid recurrence?
Store Manager
I applied online and got an email inviting me to an assessment center with other candidates for different management roles. The assessment day had group and individual activities. If I passed the first half, I had a formal interview with an HR person and a retail manager. Some people were let go at lunch if they weren't a good fit. A few days later, my regional manager contacted me for an informal chat where I was offered the job and told about benefits and my store. I then had 2-3 days of in-store training at local stores to get comfortable.
- Could you provide a SWOT analysis for the store?
- Working in groups, could you develop a business plan, including staffing, costs, outgoings, and external factors?
Store Manager
You'll meet with 2 District Managers (your potential boss and a peer DM) and the Regional Manager (often by phone due to their schedule). It usually starts with them asking you to introduce yourself. Keep it professional - no personal stuff like age, race, kids, or ethnicity, just accomplishments, work history, and past roles. Then, they'll introduce themselves and ask you job-related questions. Keep your answers concise using the 'SBO' format: Situation, Behavior, Outcome. Being yourself and showing personality really helps, sometimes even in tricky spots. If it's in person, make sure you look professional and have a full face of makeup on. GOOD LUCK!
- What would be your 30-day plan to address a deficit if you were to get this position?
