My interview was initially planned for a Saturday, but the manager called to reschedule it two times. Once I got there, it was a one-on-one interview, which I prefer. They started with general questions like "Tell me about yourself" and "Tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation." Later, it felt like they were trying to trick me with questions. We also talked about my past experience as an ASM and some procedures I put in place. The store manager, April, said she wanted it to feel like a conversation, but it felt like she was lecturing me in a condescending way. She even called one of my ideas "stupid." I got really uncomfortable and thought about leaving. I ended up staying, and they offered me the job, but I declined because of the interview experience. It was super disappointing, and they lost not only a potential manager but also a loyal customer.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process started with a 10-minute face-to-face meeting with the store manager. The questions were really basic, mostly about my retail experience. They really care about appearance, preferring slender people with good skin who wear a lot of makeup. Next, there was a 3-step in-store demonstration with another employee, which was pretty easy if you just paid attention to what they said while they demonstrated on your skin. When it was my turn to do the demo, I repeated what they said with my own little creative twists. After that, I had two phone interviews, one with another store manager and one with the district manager. These were also super generic. Be ready for the 'tell me about yourself' and 'how do you like to be managed' questions. It's also a good idea to research the company beforehand in case they ask what you know about them. They also like it when you brag a bit. I got a job offer within a few days after the last interview.

The whole thing took about a month, which is maybe normal for this kind of job? It was really nice though; the manager was great and so was the team. It was a good experience overall. I had to act as an assistant manager, presenting the team with the day's KPIs for about 15-20 minutes and then making sure we hit them.
