First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thames Water.
Project Manager
HR at Thames asks line managers to interview candidates from various industries. The hiring manager called me beforehand, stating I wasn't their typical candidate but was recommended by HR. I've heard this from others too. The experience was negative because HR's focus on industry and personal diversity clashed with the managers' preferences. Also, calling a candidate's personal number without prior notice to ask many questions is not ideal.

Project Manager
A hiring manager called me unexpectedly before the interview, stating I wasn't their usual hire but they'd interview me due to HR's recommendation. They questioned if I understood the role's demands and my salary expectations. I tried to answer professionally. This seemed consistent with other feedback about Thames's HR and hiring managers not aligning on 'diversity.' I proceeded with the interview for the experience, anticipating no positive outcome after that call. The Teams interview involved two interviewers who mentioned they had a strict 'script' they had to follow. They asked typical questions about project management competence and experience. Both interviewers were men with engineering backgrounds and long tenure at Thames.

- How did you handle health and safety on a project?
Senior Project Manager
It was a 2 stage interview process. The first stage was a 30-minute intro to go over my CV and ask some competency questions. The second interview involved a presentation on a scenario I was given, followed by more competency questions in a relaxed, conversational interview.
- Can you explain what you understand about agile methodologies?
