First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
Administrative Assistant
I applied online and then got a call about 5 weeks later for an in-person interview. They wanted me to get there 15 minutes early. When I arrived, another administrative assistant met me, took me to a classroom, and gave me the job description along with the questions the interviewers would ask. After about 15 minutes, I was taken to the interviewers' office. What was really interesting is they had me read the questions back to them and then I answered. It helped me feel comfortable and at ease.
- Can you describe your experience working effectively with people from diverse age groups, racial backgrounds, and ethnicities?
Administrative Assistant
The interview started with a brief overview of the job duties. Then, I was asked 5-7 questions about my administrative experience. After that, I had to go into the office for an assessment where I created a spreadsheet, sorted it, and wrote a letter. They checked my references and background, and I got a call with a job offer about a week later.
- What feedback would your previous supervisor give you regarding your strengths and weaknesses?
- Can you list three of your strengths and three of your weaknesses?
- Tell me about a challenging situation you faced with a coworker or customer and explain how you resolved it.
Administrative Assistant
I had a quick interview with two people over Teams. They started by going over the job details like hours, pay, and benefits. Then, they asked me seven questions and shared their screen so I could see them. It was a pretty neutral interview.
- What office equipment and programs are you familiar with using?
