I called ahead to see if they were hiring. I came in later that day and filled out an application, then spoke to a manager. The manager on duty asked me questions about my bar knowledge. He let me know they had just hired three other people just before me so if they do decide to offer me the job the general manager would give me a call soon. Just a couple hours later I received a call from the GM and he asked me a few questions over the phone, then offered me the job.

Technical Behavioral Presentation

I saw the job posting on Craigslist and came in for my interview. I had to fill out an application and take a written test about spirits knowledge, which included naming different types of scotches, wines, cordials, and gins. After handing in the application and test, a manager interviewed me briefly on the spot, asking about my experience and if I could push wine sales, as that was an area needing improvement. Then, I was given a script called "The Brazilian Story" to memorize and present the next day as if I were greeting a table. I did this presentation, and after it was over, they gave me a uniform and told me to start the next day. I decided not to accept the offer because the required robotic memorization and the highly structured environment suggested by the application made me feel it wouldn't be a good fit, especially since there was very little actual interaction during the interviews.

  • How about four blended scotches?
  • And can you list five gins?
