First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Research Assistant
The interview process is pretty thorough. They want to chat about what you know about the job, look at your past work, talk about the pay, and go over what you'll be doing. It's all about seeing if you're a good fit, not just skill-wise, but also with the company vibe. They want to make sure you're not only qualified but also someone who'll be a good addition to the team.
- Tell me about your understanding of this job role and your previous experience.
- Can you elaborate on your past work experience and how it relates to this role?
Executive Assistant
The people who interviewed me were really nice, and they made me feel comfortable while they interviewed me. When I was interviewed, there were 4 individuals, so there is a better chance of moving forward.
- Why are you interested in this company and what are your expectations?
- Can you tell me why you chose to apply to this company and what you hope to gain from this role?
Career Advisor
I applied for 3 positions in the Career Services office, but the Executive Director only received my application for one of them, which makes me wonder how often applications from javjobs actually get to HR. It's a good idea to follow up with the hiring department after you apply to make sure they got it. All the first contact was by phone. The office is small, with a 5-person staff, and everyone except the Executive Director is new. The interview itself was pretty relaxed.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What experience do you have that's relevant to this role?
- What are your main strengths and weaknesses?
Instructor
I had an interview with the current faculty, then a follow-up interview with the program director. After that, I had another follow-up interview with the director to clarify some questions I had. I also met with office staff and student workers who shared info about available curriculum materials.
- In what ways would you contribute to our program?
- Could you share your experience working with international adult learners?
