First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tesla Tecnologia e Comunicação.
Senior Software Engineer
So the whole process started with a recruiter chat to see if I was a good fit and interested. After that, there was a tech phone screen with some coding problems, like LeetCode medium/hard, and system design or past projects talk. Then, if all went well, I had a virtual or onsite loop, which was like 3 to 5 rounds. These rounds were focused on coding, system design, and behavioral stuff. Some parts involved live coding and questions about low-level stuff, making things faster, and engineering challenges specific to Tesla. They really looked at how I solve problems, code efficiently, and communicate. It was pretty tough, honestly, with a big emphasis on being technically skilled and fitting into Tesla's fast and impactful culture.
- For a stream of incoming integers, can you devise a data structure that allows for efficient insertion and retrieval of the median?
- Could you outline your strategy for the streaming median data structure?
- Please code a solution in the provided online editor for the streaming median problem.
Mechanical Engineer
So the guy asked me to introduce myself. Then he also introduced himself. He started to ask many technical questions and they were quite hard. He first asked me some general questions about the mechanical design, then he gradually increase the hard level. After interviews, I wanted to send him an email to express my gratitude. Unfortunately, this company doesn’t allow me to do so. I sent the email to HR and he passed my thank you email to the interviewer. Anyway, very strange and disappointed.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Do you have experience in thermal mechanics?
- What is your approach to designing a lightweight battery pack?
Parts Advisor
The interview experience was not what I expected. They didn't ask for any specific Tesla knowledge, just focused on whether I could do manual labor, lift items, and handle orders. The work hours are really demanding, including a graveyard shift. It also seemed like the interviewer thought I was applying for a different location that was two hours away from my original application.
- Can you do manual labor?
- Can you lift things?
- Can you make orders?
Junior Consultant
So the interview for Tesla usually has a few steps. You'll do some technical tests, some problem-solving stuff, and then some behavioral questions too. They might ask you about engineering, new ideas, and if you're into their whole thing about making sustainable energy and transport better.
- Can you share an example of a challenging problem you faced and how you tackled it?
- What technical skills or knowledge do you possess relevant to this role?
- Discuss your interest in the sustainable energy and transportation sectors.
