First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Teradata.
Industry Consultant
This was a pretty long process, taking about 6-8 weeks. It included a recruiter screen, then 2-3 phone screens. After that, there were two in-person interviews with different people. The final step involved giving a presentation on a topic of my choice, which I actually liked because it let me showcase my skills and how I work. They were pretty firm on the initial pay offer but did offer a one-time upfront signing bonus that was negotiable. I was really impressed by the smart and driven people at Teradata, which was a big factor in my decision. Getting the final offer approved and sent over took longer than I expected.
- Can you describe your experience with SAP and BW from previous jobs?
Professional Services Consultant
I went through a lot of interview rounds, talking to many people. They really detailed the job to me. After I was hired, I found out that what they told me wasn't true at all; in some cases, they straight-up lied. The technical consultants there are good at what they do, but they're stuck writing code in outdated frameworks. On top of that, they're overloaded with paperwork and expect constant time billing, to a degree that it's basically impossible to hit your targets and attend meetings without working like 60 hours a week.
- Could you demonstrate your coding ability by writing code on paper, similar to a method that is rarely used in practice, and this skill held significant importance in the evaluation?
- Tell me about your approach to managing and billing your time effectively within a demanding work environment.
- How would you prioritize tasks and manage your time to ensure you meet billing expectations while also participating in necessary meetings?
Professional Services Consultant
I found out about this Professional Services Consultant role via an external recruiter on a popular Australian job site. They got back to me quickly. First, I had a screening call with the recruiter. They asked about my CV, my salary expectations, and why I wanted to apply. A few days later, I was offered an in-person interview at their Sydney office (I'm based in Melbourne, but they said they'd cover my flight costs). When I arrived, I was told the interviewer would be late, and the interview was cut short. It ended up being only twenty minutes long and we only had time to quickly go over my CV. Because the interview was so brief and poorly handled, I didn't get the job. To top it off, they didn't pay back my travel costs as promised. It was pretty unprofessional.
- The interview didn't include anything particularly difficult or challenging.
