General Manager
Since I do all the interviews at my store, I can tell you Teavana trains us to use behavioral questions. For instance, I'll ask about a time you set and achieved a goal to see your drive. On the flip side, I'll ask about a time you set a goal and didn't meet it, looking for contrary evidence. Expect to be interviewed on your sales abilities – how competitive, outgoing, aggressive, and driven you are. Expect to be tested, like being asked to sell me this tea or talk about a sample you tried. Some GMs even send you to the sample cart to check your comfort with groups.
- Be ready with examples of great things you've done in your past work, school, or sports.
- Know your passions and be ready to share a bit about your personal life without getting too detailed.
- Have an idea of things you could have done better in past jobs and what you learned from them.
General Manager
It's a pretty straightforward interview process. You'll start with a call from a recruiter, probably based in Seattle. After that initial phone chat, if things go well, they'll set up a meeting with the area manager. The area manager will ask standard questions, but it's really important to be outgoing and highlight your skills in leading teams and also your ability to make sales yourself by leading by example. Then, you'll have another interview with an area manager from a different state for a peer review.
- Can you describe your favorite manager?
- What about your least favorite manager?
- Describe a time you successfully led change.
General Manager
Interviewed with the area manager, first over the phone and then in person. Then had a phone interview with the regional manager. The area manager was hours late for the first interview and a day late for the follow-up phone call. The regional manager was on time. It was stressful because I had to follow up every week. Phone calls often went unanswered or weren't returned until the very end.
- Have you ever had to terminate an employee?
