First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TDS Telecommunications.
Sales Representative
I had to end the interview, because they wanted a list of every single job I had in the last seven years, which was quite a lot since I work on project based contracts and my downtime included temp jobs until my next offer. This would have taken over 30 minutes. I will continue the interview with an email from TDs in writing requesting every listing of non-relevant jobs. They should have specified this in writing before the interview.
- Can you list every job and any employment gaps from the past seven years?
Outside Sales Representative
The interview process took about 30 to 45 minutes. They asked about my past sales experience. It's a good idea to know something about the company beforehand; you can find this online.
- Could you describe your sales background?
Sales Representative
For every position, they use the STAR Method for interviews. They'll ask for situational examples, like when you went the extra mile for a customer or handled an objection. They also do a mock phone call where the hiring manager acts as a customer trying to cancel service for a better deal elsewhere. You'll be left alone in the room with a phone and need to turn the call into a sale by asking the right questions and offering a better TDS plan. Make sure to mention their computer problems and offer the anti-virus, then ask for the sale!
- Can you tell me about your two biggest weaknesses and how they might impact this role?
- How would you respond to a colleague who expressed dislike for HR?
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations to help a customer and address their concerns?
