First, there's a writing assignment done with ciee, then a face-to-face interview with the engineer who will be the future intern's supervisor. Only 4 people were called for this stage when I did the selection process.

It starts with CIEE, the group dynamic is okay, you have to do an essay and it's an elimination stage. Very specific depending on the area of interest, however, if you know the company... you'll do well in the interview.
