First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tata Steel.
Senior Manager
The interview process had 2 rounds. The first round was with the Chief of IT Projects and some other senior members. They asked me technical questions about IT project management and using Agile, Jira, and Scrum. I was also given a case study to work through, dealing with managing multiple projects happening at the same time that had competing priorities. The second round was with the CIO and two other Chiefs. They asked me questions about the future of work, my ideas on how digital will affect the Manufacturing industry, and tested my knowledge of LCNC platforms and AI/ML models.
- How would you manage several projects running at the same time with not enough resources?
- What is your approach to managing scope when a project goes off track?
- Which project management tools have you used before?
Management Trainee
The interview was online. Since I had a core mechanical background, they asked me questions related to solid mechanics (basic stuff) and focused heavily on thermodynamic cycles. They recommended that I study thermodynamics from scratch and possibly some important parts of fluid mechanics. About 50% of the interview was about my projects. You need to be ready because they'll go really deep into your projects. Make sure you know every single word in your CV.
- Can you tell me about AISI 1020 and why you chose it for your project?
- Describe the processes of heat addition and heat removal in a 4-stroke engine.
Management Trainee
We started with a group discussion (GD) and out of 25 people, 10 were selected for the interview. The interviewers first asked about myself, my family background, and other personal details. Then, one person asked questions related to Strength of Materials, and another asked about Manufacturing Technology. I think the CGPA played a big role in getting shortlisted.
- Can you explain the processes of drilling, boring, and reaming?
- How would you calculate stress using the moment of inertia?
- What exactly is the neutral axis?
