Store Manager
The application process was too slow, and I lost interest after waiting weeks for a response. Even after moving to stage 2, it took another 5 weeks. I received an unexpected phone call which turned out to be an informal interview stage, and I wasn't prepared at all. I was caught off guard.
- What is it about Target that appeals to you?
Assistant Store Manager
The whole thing took about a month. Started with a quick call from the talent acquisition team. Then, about two weeks later, I went in for an in-person interview at the store with the Store Manager and someone from HR. It was about an hour long, mostly just an intro to Target and the team, and they wanted to know about my day-to-day responsibilities. They asked about stuff like time management, prioritizing tasks, managing KPIs, and team sizes. A few days after that, I had another interview with the regional manager. For this one, I had to do a store SWOT analysis and put together a 30/60/90 day plan. I only had a little less than a week to do it, but it was a cool challenge. Got the offer a few days after that. Even though it dragged on a bit, it was a fun and challenging process, totally worth it!
- How did you organize your day-to-day activities?
- What would your coworkers say about you?
- Can you outline the organizational structure of your present store?
Store Manager
Basically I was already working in the store and they wanted to promote me so the initial process was in-store. After talking it over with HR and the Store Manager, an interview was set up with the District Manager. It was about 40 minutes to check my skills and see if I had the leadership qualities needed. We had a pretty relaxed chat about how the company is doing in retail right now and what I'd do differently since I was in a good spot to say. We talked about the tough stuff in the store like getting resources and planning them. They also asked the usual interview questions like what's my weakest and strongest point.
- Can you detail the in-store markdown procedures, including aspects like profit, loss, inventory, product variety, and floor space allocation?
- What do you consider your greatest weakness?
- What are your strongest attributes?
