The interview process had three or four rounds and took four weeks. It felt a bit long for an SDR role, but the recruiters and interviewers were really nice and made it a positive experience, seeming genuinely interested in learning about me and my background. Their warmth helped make up for the length of the process.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was in four phases, and I got to the third phase. The first phase was a phone screening with the hiring manager where they asked about my background and then shared information about the company and the position. The second phase was with the Sales Development Manager. They asked for my elevator pitch and then provided details about the position and answered my questions. I was informed that this is an entry-level role and that there would be a 'sales school' for the first 30-90 days. The third phase involved two account managers who seemed very young, both recently graduated with less than 5 years of experience, which was evident during the interview. The interview lasted 45 minutes. The hiring manager had previously advised me to 'close' them during the interview. I asked the account managers if anything would prevent me from moving forward, and they both indicated there were no issues and they wanted to get to know me better. I felt positive about the interview. I contacted the hiring manager afterward to say it went well. The hiring manager mentioned they would inform me in a couple of days. After a few days, I received notification from the hiring manager that they were not proceeding with my application. I replied to the hiring manager, thanking them for their time but requesting more details on what went wrong so I could learn from my mistakes. I haven't received a response after a week. They also posted a new SDR job opening. I don't think my interview preparation was the issue; it was likely a culture fit. I suspect they generally felt I was 'too old' for the position (I'm 31 and engaged), which makes sense as most of the sales team is over 25.

The interview process at Tanium was a great example of how they do business in a transparent and mature way. The internal recruiter was fantastic, always going the extra mile to help me out. I met some really friendly and professional leaders there. Although I decided to go with another opportunity for personal reasons, I'd still recommend Tanium to anyone looking for a fast-paced, dynamic tech company.
