The interview process involved multiple rounds with the recruiter, TAMs, line manager, and senior manager. It's unusual for a non-senior role to have 7-8 interview stages, and they seem to repeat questions, possibly due to poor internal communication or to catch candidates off guard. The recruiter's attitude felt hostile, and the extensive interview process gave the impression of interviewing for a major company like Microsoft or Amazon, which this company seems to mistakenly believe it's on par with. I'd advise avoiding this company.

I had a first round with the recruiter, Linda. The job description says it's remote, but if you're within 50 miles of an office, you have to go in 3 days a week, which is something that should have been in the job description. It felt like a waste of time for someone looking for a remote role. Also, the job seems more like an IT Support Engineer than a Technical Account Manager. She asked networking questions.

So I got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn for a job at Tanium. Here's how the interview process went down for me: First, there was a phone screen with the recruiter. They asked basic HR stuff and a couple of Linux questions like how to see a process and how to change file permissions. If the recruiter liked me, they sent me an online quiz. It had about 30 questions, each with a 30-second time limit. You'd see an image of something from Linux or Windows and had to type what it was. I remember seeing stuff like the OSI Model, Chrome's Inspect Element, different ports, encryption types, Linux and Windows commands (htop, top, tasklist, ps, ipconfig), GPO concepts, server manager features, registry editor, services, SSH keys, openssl, XML files, and Linux file systems. Basically, if you know Linux and Windows, you'll be fine, but you really gotta know your stuff. They don't expect you to get everything right, so just do your best. Then, I had an interview with a direct manager or VP. They asked broad infrastructure questions and some Linux kernel stuff. Next up was a 90-minute technical panel with three other Technical Account Managers. They basically reviewed my quiz answers and threw random tech questions at me, just to see what I knew. Again, they weren't expecting perfect answers. After that, I got access to Tanium and had to create some sensors, which are like scripts. Tanium is pretty straightforward; you can get info like running jobs or installed programs. Then, I had a 30-minute chat with another VP, who didn't even show their face. Finally, there was supposed to be an interview with a higher-up, but I didn't get that far. All in all, it was a pretty decent interview experience, not too rough if you're solid on Linux/Windows. But honestly, it felt like a likability test in the end; if they like you, you're probably good to go, so just be likable.
