First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Talener.
Relationship Manager
I applied through my college's career site. First, I had a phone screen that went well, covering my background, why I chose my school, and my interest in sales. Then, I had an on-campus interview with the same person. This was more personal, asking about my major, why sales, and my suitability for Talener. The interviewer was fun but used a lot of unprofessional cursing. Next, I had a phone interview with a more senior person who seemed unfamiliar with interviewing, asking about my family and relationships, which felt irrelevant to the job. They also asked 'Why sales?' twice, which was confusing. I was invited for another interview at their office but ended up accepting a full-time offer elsewhere.
- Can you tell me again why you are interested in sales?
- Could you explain your interest in sales one more time?
Relationship Manager
HR reached out and asked some basic questions and gave me the lowdown on the role. I set up an in-person interview for the next day in Manhattan. There, I met with a director and a manager. The director did a professional interview, discussing my past work experience and my interest in recruiting. The manager was more laid-back, giving me a detailed overview of a typical workday and what to expect from the company. They mentioned HR would contact me for a second interview. About a week later, I had my second interview, meeting another director and several more managers. It was great chatting with them and hearing about their experiences at the company.
- Tell me about your interest in recruiting or sales.
- What's an interesting fact about you that few people know?
Relationship Manager
The interview process was unlike any interview process I have every undergone in the sense that they did not ask technical questions that pertained to the job-- During the initial phone interview, I felt like I was giving a detailed summary of my life. I answered questions about where I grew up, family dynamics, hobbies, any upcoming trips, etc., Though the person who was interviewing me was genuinely interested (or seemed to be, given the length of our conversation), I think the other goal of this phone interview was to see if I was capable of holding a conversation over the phone with someone I hadn't met before... which is a HUGE part of the position Talener offers. The second interview was an on-site interview where I sat with 2 Group Managers and then 2 Relationship Managers. It lasted roughly 2 hours and fortunately enough for me, I was hired on the spot! I don't think of myself as great during interviews but meeting with very successful people who were not too much older than myself was really inspiring. I remained very interested in the opportunity and didn't ask a lot of questions. I didn't know what I wanted to do at the time, but I knew I wanted to land a job and start making money and the fact that there was an opportunity at a really fun company who really rally behind their new employees to teach them valuable skill sets was something I couldn't risk missing out on.
- What are your goals?
