I went to the mall info desk to get a list of stores that were hiring. I like to go to the store in person to check it out and see if I can talk to the manager. I went into the store and asked if they were hiring. The key holder gave me an application. I filled it out at the food court and brought it back. The manager was back from lunch and talked to me briefly, saying she'd get back to me. I applied online at home. The manager called the next day and I had an in-person interview on-site with her that week. I then had a second phone interview with the District Manager, and got a formal offer the day after.

I first spoke with the DM over the phone, then met with another peer Store Manager from the district in person. After I scheduled the second interview with the SM, a recruiter contacted me stating the process was out of order and that she needed to schedule a phone interview, which happened just 30 minutes before my meeting with the SM. The interviews with the DM and SM were good, flowing nicely and conversationally. The recruiter's phone interview, however, was very uncomfortable. She was brief, almost rude, and was eating and chewing loudly the entire time. It was super unprofessional and left a bad impression. I didn't get the job offer (though I wouldn't have taken it anyway) and stayed in my current position. Later, I found out the SM I interviewed with left, and customers have complained a lot about the declining service there over the past year. Seems like I avoided a bad situation! It would be embarrassing to have a recruiter with such poor skills representing the brand to potential hires.

Behavioral Other

A corporate recruiter emailed me to schedule a phone interview. She called 20 minutes early, and since I didn't recognize the number, I was surprised when she asked if I'd read her email. The interview included typical retail management questions. She interrupted me a lot. I was told I'd get another call in 3 days, but I never heard back and wasn't even sent a thank you email. I was ghosted. It was unprofessional, and the job is still posted 3 months later.
