Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sytner Group.
Parts Advisor
They invited me for an interview and mentioned I was the only candidate they were considering. Then, they asked me to do a 'work trial' for a day to see if I wanted to change jobs. Naively, I did the unpaid labor and took a day off my normal job. After working hard there and doing everyone’s tasks, I got ghosted. Shame on you.
- We had a brief conversation.

The interview was initially scheduled for Friday, September 9th, but I found out by chance that the recruitment day was actually Tuesday, September 6th. I emailed to confirm the correct date was the 6th. I had to change a hotel booking, and thankfully it was free as the new dates were more expensive. When I arrived, there was no HR, only the site manager who tried his best. There were supposed to be 11 candidates, but only 4 showed up, making me wonder if others were also given the wrong date. The planned exercise didn't happen, and we went straight into 1-on-1 interviews. My interviewer seemed like a senior consultant, above a regular consultant but not management. All questions were taken directly from the application form, with no chance for me to ask questions. The interview was pressing but fair. A planned 6-hour day was cut to about 40-45 minutes. The day's events caught me a bit off guard. A week later, I still haven't heard back, despite being promised an update. I asked for feedback but haven't received any.
- Tell me about a time you disregarded company policy.

So we had a group interview, there were about eight of us total. We started with an icebreaker game where we introduced ourselves. Then the interviewer went through some slides about the company and the job, covering the role, what they were looking for, pay, and a general overview. After that, they asked if anyone had questions. Then, we were split into two teams, and each team had to try and sell a toy car. The whole thing was pretty chill and not awkward, thanks to the interviewer keeping things relaxed.
- Could you tell me what your understanding of CarShop is?
