Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sysco.
Sales Consultant
The interview process was quick and easy, very smooth. Applied, then got contacted quickly about next steps. Had a phone screen to check qualifications. The in-depth interview was focused and quick. They told me the next steps and gave feedback fast. The whole process was organized and candidate-friendly.
- Do you have prior experience in the hospitality industry?
Sales Consultant
First, I had a phone chat with the DSM, and then I met with the DSM again to go over the role before the actual interview. The main part was a round table with 5 interviewers where they asked a lot of scenario-based questions. It felt like an average difficulty.
- Can you share an instance when...?
Sales Consultant
After I applied, I did a personality assessment and a virtual one-way interview, which seemed pretty standard. My friends who applied in other cities got rejected quickly, but I heard back from a district manager a couple of weeks later. He initially called and we played phone tag, but he ended up texting to ask for a coffee meeting. It was unexpected for the first round to be in person, which was kinda refreshing. We met for about 30 minutes, and I made sure to bring extra copies of my resume since he asked for one. We talked through my resume and my experience related to the role, and I explained why I was looking for a new opportunity. Then, he explained the role and opened it up for my questions. I made sure to ask some relevant ones and emphasize how good a fit the role sounded. He told me right away that he wanted to move me to the next step: a panel interview on Microsoft Teams the next day. There were five people on the panel, including District Managers and a Regional Manager. They asked standard STAR-based questions, so definitely prepare for those. They record the interviews so other District Managers can watch them and potentially interview you next. The day after the panel, a different district manager called, mentioning he'd watched my recorded interview. He asked to meet for coffee that afternoon for a vibe check, to see how hungry I was for the role and get to know me better. He shared more about the team and what he looks for in a manager, then opened it up for questions. Make sure you have relevant questions! A few hours after that coffee meeting, he called and extended a verbal offer, with a formal offer from the recruiter coming later. They do background checks, including education and employment verification, and a drug test, so be honest on your resume.
- Have you had a conflict with a coworker before, and how did you handle it?
- Describe a time you went above and beyond for a job or task.
- Can you tell me about a mistake you made at work?
