First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Synology.
Product Manager
It was a pretty standard interview process with three parts. First, a quick chat with HR. Then, a call with another Product Manager. Finally, I had to give a presentation to a group of people. The first two chats were fine, but the last one was weird. They wanted me to do a presentation, and it felt like the head of product really didn't like it, saying stuff sarcastically. They even implied I only wanted the job to move to Germany, which was odd because they needed someone from my home country and I'd lived abroad a lot. Looking back, I should have just walked away. It was the strangest interview I've ever had, and I've been doing this a while. Thankfully, since then, interviews have been normal, and I didn't get an offer from them.
- Could you explain what a NAS is to a non-technical person unfamiliar with the concept?
Product Manager
The interview process had two main rounds. The first round involved two parts: first, an interview with two engineers, and second, an interview with one engineer. During this round, I was given problems disguised as Linked-List and Stack questions, along with several project-related questions. The second round also had two parts: first, an interview with HR, and second, an interview with a supervisor. In this round, I encountered a problem disguised as a DP + recursive test, which was considered 'hard' on Leetcode.
- Can you explain the difference between a process and a thread?
- What is the difference between overloading and overriding?
Product Manager
First, HR will send you a link to complete a 30-minute English test. This test will involve translating some news articles from Chinese to English and answering scenario-based questions, like ones about starting a coffee shop. If you pass that, you'll proceed to the second stage, which is an English interview with a manager and a team member. This entire interview will be in English and will cover introductions and some behavioral questions.
- What prompted your move from sales into project management, and what is driving your current transition from project management to a product management position that is more market-facing?
- Can you explain your career progression from sales to project management, and now your interest in moving into a product management role that is more market-focused?
