First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Synergist Computing.
Systems Engineer
The interview process was very straight forward and smooth. I had an informal interview with the company where they answered all my questions about contracts, benefits and the working environment, basically to learn about the company and its culture. The second part of the interview was more formal and structured where I was interviewed for a specific job. Overall a straight forward and pleasant experience
- What kind of work environment are you seeking?
Software Tester
I had one virtual interview that lasted about 30-40 minutes with the Program Manager, Developers, and Senior Software Tester. After introductions, they asked me to talk more about what's on my resume. Then, they each asked me questions specific to the role.
- What software have you used to track bugs and issues?
- Can you describe your programming experience level?
- What kind of applications have you tested?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved several technical questions. I'd heard from a colleague that Synergist treated its employees well but was also involved in some questionable practices on their job sites, like only picking people from their inner circle and blocking others from necessary information. This included using Wiki pages manipulatively, putting down team members in daily meetings, blocking access to peer software reviews, not letting people document project progress, and firing employees who questioned these actions. My goal in interviewing was to see if these behaviors were present.
- Can you explain how you manage a multi-threaded application?
- How would you approach debugging a class?
Operations
The interview process had a casual, professional vibe. They talked about the usual interview stuff but made sure I was comfortable and felt welcome. It was a nice change from overly formal interviews. Everyone was direct, which helped me gauge the company as a potential employer. Synergist really focused on my career goals, skills I wanted to gain, and the kind of workplace I was looking for. They took the time to understand what I liked and disliked about past jobs and used that to present opportunities. They clearly wanted to find the right person for the role, not just fill a spot. The process wasn't complicated. A phone chat and an in-person interview led to an offer. I liked how quickly they made an offer, saving me time. The offer reflected the specific things we discussed that I wanted, and was what I expected. All in all, the process was clear, fast, and actually enjoyable.
- Regarding your career aspirations, what are some things you're eager to pursue that you haven't had the chance to in your past positions?
