& Process

Applied online and got a quick call from a recruiter. First, I had an in-person interview with the recruiter and two supervisors from the Maintenance Department. Then, a few days later, I had another in-person interview with the Maintenance Director and the same supervisors. The whole experience was really positive and felt respectful. They had a well-organized process and the talks were direct and professional, giving me a good sense of how they work and their culture. In the end, the recruiter called me personally to say they chose someone with a different educational background, but offered to keep my resume for future jobs, which was nice. It's great when companies communicate directly and respect your time, unlike many that just disappear. I'd definitely recommend applying and would consider interviewing with them again.

We began with a Zoom interview, after which I was invited for an on-campus visit. They covered flights, a rental car, and hotel accommodations, and provided a reimbursement form for gas and meals. It was a really considerate process that didn't cost interviewees anything financially, aside from the time taken off from their current job.

So when I applied for this job, right at the start, it said in bold that Sweetwater is a drug-free workplace and everyone has to take a drug test, including for marijuana, before getting an offer. This worried me because I use medical marijuana where I live. I asked about it, and the interviewer kind of gaslit me, saying they don't test for marijuana and that I must have misread it. Then I asked about commission, and the interviewer said that wasn't the case for the Category Advisor role and asked me what I liked about that position. I said I was confused because I thought I applied for a Sales Engineer job. The interviewer then said I did apply for sales. Another big red flag was that the interviewer seemed to want my complete dedication to the company. It's a job, not a whole life, and a lot of employers mess this up. You pay me, that's it. We don't owe companies everything. Honestly, I don't think they'll offer me the job, but I'd probably decline if they did anyway. Something feels off about this company; it feels like they want slaves who will give their entire lives to them.

I was really excited about the opportunity to interview at Sweetwater because I've always admired them. The interview itself went well, and I was informed that I would need to relocate if I were to accept a position. I mentioned that I was open to that. I suspect this might be why I didn't move forward, as our conversation was otherwise great. I sent a thank you email the same day I interviewed and followed up two weeks later, but never heard back. I won't work for a company that wastes over an hour of my time and then is too impolite to even send a rejection email. They've also lost me as a customer because of this.
