It was a disappointing interview process. I first spoke with the hiring manager over the phone, and that conversation went well. Then, I was scheduled for an in-person interview with a strict dress code, which I adhered to by purchasing dark jeans and non-slip shoes. They mentioned it would be a working interview. I successfully completed that round but felt uneasy afterward. The subsequent interview was a Zoom call with the COO. He seemed to think the straightforward job was beyond my capabilities and treated it as if it were complex, even though I had handled more challenging roles earlier in my career. He also acted as if I had no experience managing a bakery for 5 years or any knowledge about cakes, despite my associate degree in baking and pastry. I found the whole experience humiliating. I was ultimately rejected over the phone.

The interview itself was great, but all the communication was done over text instead of email, which made coordination a little difficult. There was very little to no response when I asked to move the communication to email for better tracking.

About a week after I applied online, I had a FaceTime interview with the HR recruiter that lasted a bit over half an hour. A few days later, I got a call from the Senior General Manager to set up a working interview for the following week at the store. They told me to block out about 4 hours and to wear blue jeans and black non-slip shoes. That interview involved chatting with the general manager and district manager for around 40 minutes. Before the working part, I was given paperwork to sign, a uniform (T-shirt, bandana, apron, towel), and then introduced to staff members. I then spent about two hours on the selling floor, getting familiar with the bakery's layout, product storage and presentation, and a quick overview of the bakery items. I shadowed team members, greeted customers, and learned to pack orders and use the cash wrap. It was a lot to absorb, and the time went by quickly.
