First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SurePayroll.
User Interface Developer
It was a phone interview with SurePayroll's Talent Acquisition. First, I was asked about my recent projects and previous work experience. Then, I got to ask questions. I asked about the specific duties of UI Developers because the job description seemed to blend responsibilities of UX Designers and Software Engineers, and I wanted to understand how the role fit with those other positions. The interviewer wasn't from UX or development and just pointed to the job description, which felt dismissive. I asked more about the role, team, and company, but the interviewer didn't have much detail as their job was to pass info to the hiring manager. The interviewer was nice, but it was a bit awkward discussing my field with someone who didn't have a background in it.
- Can you discuss your recent projects?
- Could you tell me about your previous experience?
- What are the precise responsibilities for UI Developers here?
Lead
I have a diminished respect for companies that use outdated applicant systems with total disregard to privacy and flexibility. This company uses a tool called 'APPONE' that is not at all user friendly. It is like submitting the candidate details into a blackhole and can't even see what has been submitted. Frustrating and hopeless apps. Wonder when we would have a ATS systems that are smarter and more candidate friendly or maybe the whole sourcing process should be automated to disintermediate and eliminate the lethargic and hands-off recruiting department. At least companies can save money and have better candidate experience.
- The questions were easy.
Account Executive
I got a call from a recruiter who was super nice and set up a face-to-face with a DSM. The meeting with the DSM went for about 40 minutes, and they had a list of questions they kind of jumped around. It felt like the DSM was looking for very specific, by-the-book answers, and they seemed to notice when my responses weren't exactly what they expected. The DSM mentioned a 'Blackout Period' where no time off is allowed from December through February, which immediately killed my interest in the role.
- Can you share experiences of winning and losing, in both your career and personal life?
- How do you feel about losing?
- What is your primary motivator?
Sales Manager
first round was a phone screen by the recruiter, then you had to take a sales and personality test (McQuaig). after that, you interviewed with managers who would be your peers. step 4 was an interview with the VP of Sales onsite. The final step was an interview with the CEO of the company onsite.
- The interviews used the STAR method to understand specific achievements.
- The STAR method involves detailing the Situation, Task, Action, and Result of your accomplishments.
