Accounting Specialist
I had a phone interview for a remote position. The first interview I scheduled, they didn't call, so I had to reschedule online. During the second interview, the interviewer was typing very loudly while I was answering, which really disrupted my train of thought. The job was advertised as part-time non-profit work, but they seemed surprised that I planned to keep my current job if I got an offer. When I made it clear this would be supplemental and I didn't want to leave my other part-time job, they falsely claimed they had no non-profit clients and would 'keep my resume on hand'.

Bookkeeper
It was a typical interview for the position. They inquired about my previous bookkeeping experience. There was just one person interviewing me. They asked about my proficiency with Microsoft software and what I did in my previous role.
- Can you tell me about your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- What is your experience with computers?
- Could you describe your past work experiences?
Financial Operations Associate
The entire process moved fast and they made me an offer within 3 weeks. This was too much for this basic bookkeeping role. It started with a phone screen from the recruiter. Then I had an interview with the recruiter, by phone. After that, an interview with the manager, also by phone. Then an interview with the owner, by video. They also had me take a personality test and an accounting test. I had to supply 2 client references and 1 other reference. Finally, there was a criminal background check.
- Can you describe your experience working remotely?
- How do you go about prioritizing clients?
- What software are you familiar with?
Financial Operations Manager
So I had a bunch of interviews, 3 in total. It started with a phone call, then two Zoom calls. First, I had to do this accounting skills test and a personality test. The first phone interview went pretty well. They told me I needed to get Quickbooks Online certified, so I studied all weekend and got it done. I let them know I was certified. Then I waited a week and they set up a Zoom interview, which also went well. After that, they asked for 3 references, which I gave them. Another week passed, and then I had to wait for someone to set up a third interview. The third interviewer finally scheduled it for the next day. But then, about 30 minutes later, I got an email saying they picked someone else. I was shocked, so I asked the original contact and the third interviewer why, since I'd just scheduled the third interview. Nobody got back to me all day. Then, about 30 minutes before the interview I was supposed to have (but then got canceled), I got told it was a mistake and I still had the interview. The third interviewer seemed really unpleasant and unprofessional, wearing a t-shirt. Most of the questions in that last interview were about firing and disciplining employees, not much about my actual skills. Another week went by and they emailed me again saying they chose someone else. It's frustrating to have to get certified and give references so early just to be told they weren't interested. It was also super unprofessional to tell me they chose someone else, then say it was a mistake, and then finally confirm they chose someone else right before the interview was supposed to happen.
- Can you share an instance when you had to terminate an employee?
- Describe your experience with employee discipline.
- What steps would you take if an employee consistently makes errors, and what would be your approach if the mistakes persist?
