The interview featured straightforward questions that can be deceptively simple and easy to overcomplicate when stressed. The interviewer was primarily interested in understanding my approach to solving problems.

The interview process here is kinda all over the place and it feels like they pick candidates for weird reasons. For my role, there were a ton of technical questions, but my buddy who applied for the same job said they hardly talked tech with him. Then there's this other friend who got hit with a question that you'd only know if you'd already worked here, and he didn't get hired because he messed it up. Not exactly fair.

I saw a job ad on craigslist for a Solutions Engineer position and a few days later, HR contacted me asking for my resume and to complete a timed pre-employment competency test online. This test took about 30 minutes and had around 10 short answer questions covering things like the Windows Registry, an old PC virus, and customer service scenarios like dealing with an angry customer. The technical questions were designed to require quick research, which is a key part of the role, so it was basically a test of Google skills. After submitting the test without knowing my score, HR emailed me to set up a phone interview for the next day. The call lasted about an hour and the interviewer, who sounded like a salesman, asked some technical questions and a lot of behavioral questions about fitting into the company culture, like how I'd handle upset people or explain tech concepts simply. We finished early, and a couple of days later I got an offer.

  • If you have a technological / computer background, you will do fine.
