Program Manager
My interview experience at Supernova Technologies was pretty negative overall. The culture seemed cold and unwelcoming. Everyone kept cutting me off, and the questions felt like they were trying to trip me up instead of learning about my skills. By the second round, I realized it wasn't a supportive environment. Interviews should be a two-way street, and I felt tested, not valued. I decided not to continue because the company culture wasn't a good fit.
- Can you tell me what Supernova does?
Program Manager
Started with an HR chat, then talked to the Hiring Manager. After that, I had an on-site with the leadership team where I did a system demo. I spent about 4 hours getting ready for it. It was an okay experience, not too hard, not too easy.
- Can you describe your experience with the software development lifecycle?
Program Manager
I got to the third round, which was an onsite interview where I had to give a demo, followed by more interviews. The first two phone interviews, I made it clear I didn't have a finance background and was a client-facing project manager. I was brought into a room to demo the software to 3 employees. They introduced themselves and then mostly sat on their laptops until one employee set me up. It was pretty awkward. I thought the demo would be a high-level overview of the software's technology, as I applied for a program manager role, not finance or sales. But they asked really in-depth financial questions, which caught me off guard since I'd stated I wasn't from finance. Midway through my demo, one employee took out her laptop and started working, maybe to feel important. It kind of shows the culture when someone can't wait a few more minutes for a demo to finish, especially when I took time off work. After the demo, they said they weren't moving forward with more interviews because they needed someone who was already an expert in Supernova technology and could do client demos immediately. This tells me they're looking for a sales role and expect you to self-train. I admit my demo wasn't great, but I had just moved across the country and didn't want to cancel out of respect for their time; I probably should have. Even if I'd given the demo I wanted to, it likely wouldn't have been what they were looking for. So, it doesn't seem like a project management role, definitely more sales-oriented. I had 3 interviews and no questions about project management or soft skills were asked. If that were the case, I shouldn't have passed the first interview. You're expected to work some nights on calls with their China dev team. Pay is just average. The people weren't great to deal with. It's a 4-day hybrid week. Overall, it might look good on a resume, but I don't see anything else you couldn't get elsewhere with better pay and a better culture and people.
