Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SUNY Albany.
Research Assistant
Had a 1-hour interview for research work. They asked about my background and more technical questions for cloud security. Also got some behavioral questions. They also gave me a coding challenge. A lot of questions about my previous work experiences.
- Tell me about why you think you're a good fit for this role.
- Why should I hire you?
Research Assistant
The interview process involved a one-on-one meeting with a manager, who would potentially be a team member in this small department. They assess candidates for a specific skill set based on the current project needs. In my case, they were undecided on the technology for their software package development, so the interview was more general.
- We had an easy discussion about the progress of my previous internship project, as the interviewer was familiar with it.
Research Assistant
First, I had to submit my statement of purpose and graduate applications. They responded pretty quickly after the deadline. They were really helpful in setting up the interview.
- Can you tell me more about your background?
- What are your career aspirations?
- What are your preferred research areas or collaborators?
