First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey.
Investment Banking Analyst
I went to their campus info session, and then applied via my university's job board. The night before the interview, there was a reception with food and drinks where we could chat with the interviewers and learn about SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. It was pretty chill. The next day's interview was intense, though. It was a 2 on 1, and they were firing off technical and behavioral questions. It felt like they were trying to trip me up rather than see what I knew, and honestly, I could tell pretty quickly I wasn't the right fit. I didn't get a second interview.
- Can you describe valuation techniques?
- How would you go about assessing a company's credit worthiness?
Investment Banking Associate
This was the interview I performed the worst in among those I've had recently. The interviewers were nice, but I felt tense and didn't do well. They really stress how much you'll be working, which is a lot. The first interview isn't very technical, but I heard it gets technical if you're invited back to the main office.
- Can you start by walking me through your resume?
- What motivates your interest in investment banking?
- Why should we choose you over other strong candidates, like those with perfect GPAs from Harvard?
Investment Banking Analyst
I applied through their Diversity Leadership Summit back in November. It was a two-day event. Day 1 involved a tour of the trading floor, an MD gave an overview of the company, there was a panel with current analysts/associates/VPs, and then a networking dinner with the senior bankers who we'd be interviewing with the next day. Day 2 kicked off around 7:30 A.M. with breakfast, followed by five 30-minute interviews with MDs, Associates, and VPs. Each of us had a mentor who gave us interview tips and escorted us to the interview rooms. We wrapped up with a casual lunch.
- If a company spends $10M cash on equipment, what impacts the 3 financial statements at t=0 and t=1?
- You have a scale and 2 weighings to find the one heavier ball among 8 identical balls. How do you do it?
