The hiring process was very quick and simple, and I received an offer soon after applying on Indeed. The interview itself was relaxed and not intimidating. It felt like I was essentially given an offer with minimal effort.

I'm a digital nomad and was looking for a remote job. I have experience with SolarCity and selling Sunrun products. I reached out to a friend who works remotely at Sunrun, and he told me they had remote positions and encouraged me to apply. I'm a US citizen, authorized to work in the US, and have a US address. At the time of my interview, I was in Mexico City. I contacted the Sunrun recruiter, Aubrey McIntosh, in Salt Lake City. About a week later, I interviewed with two managers, and it seemed to go well. Their only concern was that I'd be working from Mexico, and they weren't sure if that was allowed. I pointed out that they already have remote workers nationwide, so why would my situation be an issue? They said they'd look into it and let me know. My interview was in late November 2024. They mentioned a new class wouldn't start until January 2025, but they'd still inform me of their decision. After the interview, I asked Aubrey for the managers' emails to send thank-you notes, but I never heard back. I then started following up on my application status with Aubrey weekly for over a month via phone and email, only getting one response. Finally, I contacted two other Sunrun employees, and they provided the answer I needed. One responded in 2 days, the other in about a week, and both said the same thing: Sunrun wouldn't hire a US citizen with no restrictions and a US address for a remote role that only requires a computer, phone, and internet, which I have. They are clearly set up to support remote teams, so the complete lack of response from the Utah managers and their corporate recruiter baffled me and ruined the application experience. I believe this is something hiring managers and recruiters for remote teams should know immediately, or at least be able to easily find and communicate. It's easily obtainable and verifiable information.

So, the Sunrun interview process is kinda multi-stage, aiming to check out your skills and if you'd fit in. First, you gotta submit your application online. Then, a recruiter will likely give you a call to chat about your background and why you're into the job. After that, you might have some interviews, could be virtual or in-person, looking at your technical chops or how you'd fit with Sunrun's vibe. If it's a specific role, you might get a case study or presentation task. The last bit is usually meeting with some higher-ups to talk experience and goals. If all goes well, they'll make you an offer and you can negotiate. Then comes onboarding to get you started.
