First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sunrun.
Manager
I was contacted by a recruiter and we scheduled a phone interview. However, the recruiter missed the scheduled call. After I reached out, she apologized and we rescheduled. During the rescheduled phone interview, the recruiter was in a noisy environment, making it hard to hear. A few days later, she mentioned the hiring manager wanted to speak with me and asked for my availability. I provided my availability but didn't hear back. On the day I was available, the hiring manager called unexpectedly to see if I could talk. Later that night, I was informed they chose an internal candidate. Two days later, I received another email asking if I was still interested. I confirmed my interest, and after two days, the recruiter contacted me again, apologizing for the confusion, and stated they had decided on a different internal candidate.
- Tell me about a challenging situation you encountered.
- Could you describe a time you had to make a difficult choice?
- How would you resolve a disagreement with a colleague?
Service Manager
I applied on LinkedIn and the hiring manager reached out the next day. I spoke with a recruiter, then the hiring manager via phone. I was told an in-person interview would happen in a few weeks, but the hiring manager was actually coming to my area the following week. That Monday, I had a virtual peer interview with another Regional Service Manager. It felt like they were interviewing me for a lower-level role, asking basic management questions. The interviewer asked my salary expectations, which I found inappropriate for a peer discussion and potentially an HR issue. When I explained my interest, he interrupted me to say he only took the job for the money. Afterward, the recruiter contacted me about an in-person interview 9 hours away. She said she'd let me know about travel, but I didn't hear back until the next week when I received a rejection email. The recruiter did her job professionally, but the company needs better interview training. The peer interviewer shouldn't have asked about salary or revealed his sole motivation was money, which really put me off the company.
- Tell me about a time you had to discipline an employee.
- What is your motivation for applying to this role?
- What are your salary expectations?
Manager
I applied online and was referred by a good employee. The recruiter said it would be one 45-minute interview with a director and a manager. The interview happened, and some questions felt unoriginal. I felt it went well and followed up with the recruiter within 24 hours, sending a thank you email and expressing continued interest. I also asked for feedback, but got none. My referral mentioned the company was hiring a lot, so I followed up again after 2.5 weeks. The recruiter sent a rejection text 4 business days later, vaguely stating they hired someone who "aligned a bit better." They didn't give a specific reason. I'm frustrated because it was a manager role paying over 100k, and I felt disrespected, especially as a referral. This experience makes me question working there, given other employee complaints about management. They've rejected me 10 times before without interviews, usually with a generic email late on a Sunday. I'm done with this company.
- Can you describe your experience with reports and how you utilized them for monitoring metrics?
