So the first thing was this Hireview interview, they asked behavioural questions about safety, if I encountered something unethical and what I did, why Suncor, and what I improved and learned last year. Some were video, some written. I'd suggest practicing in front of a mirror or computer and getting your answers down pat. After Hireview, there was a Hogan personality test, which was pretty easy. Then I had an interview with HR and the hiring manager. Lots of technical and behavioural questions, mostly based on my experience. Overall, it was a good experience!

The interview schedule was really rigid and inconvenient for me, but the HR person insisted it couldn't be moved, so I had to adjust my own plans. The manager who was keen on hiring me couldn't make the scheduled time, meaning the people interviewing me wouldn't be my direct reports. One of the interviewers seemed unaware of the position I'd applied for, requiring me to explain it during the interview. It was a pretty standard interview overall. I met with two interviewers in a tiny room. Neither offered a business card, and their names were hard to pronounce, which added to the awkwardness. The interviewers seemed more impressed that I used PowerPoint than my ability to perform data analysis using Excel and Matlab. They asked about my behavior, intentions, and experience with different software. They also asked me to rate my proficiency with certain software (mostly Microsoft Office), what I'd do if someone from another department requested assistance on a big project, and for an instance where I received negative feedback from a supervisor and what I would change. They also asked about a time I successfully completed a project and why I was interested in the role. My response about wanting to learn was met with the statement that there were limited learning opportunities in this job. I perceived the interviewers as disorganized. Since neither of them would be my actual managers, they couldn't provide much detail about the job, just vague responses like 'delivering deliverables.' One interviewer frequently asked questions not on their list, which seemed to disrupt the other interviewer, and these unscheduled questions weren't particularly helpful. I was extended an offer the following week, but they wanted me to start six months later than the original start date for the position, which would have meant splitting my final school year. I turned down the offer.

I went for an interview with two engineers in Vancouver. There were 16 other people interviewing at my school that day and only 3 of us were selected. The interviewers asked mainly about my past experience and the specifics of the jobs and my skills. There was also a part that was behavioral. It seemed like they were following a script because they didn't seem as interested in my answers to those questions as they were when we discussed my skills and experience. As usual, I got to ask questions at the end, and they answered them well. The whole thing was nice and the interviewers were really friendly.
