I applied through my campus career portal and the whole thing took a bit less than two months. First, I had a 15-30 minute phone call that really felt like a screening to make sure I was a good fit. The recruiter asked why I wanted to work there and confirmed I was okay with working overtime and weekends. They invited me to come to the NYC office for a second round interview at the end of the call. This second round was with different people at different levels, which was a much better experience than the phone call. They all asked me questions, some more conversational than others. I sent follow up emails to all four interviewers but only got one response. About two weeks later, I got a standard rejection email.

I interviewed for a legal assistant job via the Small Liberal Arts Consortium recruiting day. Two women interviewed me: a recruiter and a lawyer. They asked pretty basic questions, like why I wanted to get into law. I'm annoyed because over a month later, they told me I got to the final round, which is a 3-4 hour in-office interview in NYC. I go to school in the Midwest, so I asked about travel reimbursement or a Skype option, which they don't offer. It feels unreasonable for a law firm to expect students to fly to NYC (with only two weeks' notice) for an interview without covering travel costs. So, I withdrew my application.

  • Can you work overtime and on weekends?
