First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Success Academy Charter Schools.
Operations Lead
I spoke with an external recruiter first, then the department head, and finally the hiring manager and stakeholders. The company was keen to fill the role quickly, making it a fairly fast process. The entire interview journey was conducted virtually, even though I'm based in NYC.
- Could you explain why you are interested in SUCCESS specifically, compared to other education organizations?
- In what ways do you find SUCCESS to be distinct?
Business Operations Manager
Soon after I applied, a recruiter reached out via email to schedule a phone interview. After I gave them my availability, it was set up. A couple of days later, I spoke with someone who just gave her first name. It was a really quick call. She asked about my past work experience, which sectors I've been looking into, what my previous boss would say about me, and a personal weakness I'm trying to improve. I asked about their timeline for filling the role, and she mentioned they wanted to do it ASAP, keeping in mind the start of the school year and the need for training. I felt good after the call and was hopeful, thinking it went well. But then, nothing. I didn't know who to contact, so I emailed the person who set up the interview, but never heard back. About a month later, I got a standard rejection email from someone else. This whole process felt disorganized and discouraging, especially since the job required a move. I held off on signing a new lease just in case. The lack of communication about the process and timeline was really poor. I was excited about the position and now have a different view of the school and its management.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- What industries have you been researching lately?
- What would your manager say about you if asked?
Business Operations Manager
A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. Things moved fast and I had a phone screen and an in-person interview. I was referred to another TA team for a different role (Community Affairs Coordinator) and had a video interview for that.
- How would you describe your leadership style?
- Can you share an example of working with a supervisor to resolve a challenging situation?
