Operations Coordinator
After I applied, I got called for a 30-min Zoom interview. They actually moved the scheduling up by a day because of some changes. The interview felt kinda weird, not super welcoming, and the questions were not what I expected at all. Instead of asking about my background or skills, it was all about discipline: childhood virtues, middle school discipline, homework consequences, and how I handle feedback. Nothing about the job, and I couldn't even show my qualifications. The focus on consequences felt off and made me wonder about the work environment. I didn't get the job, but honestly, I was relieved. My advice is to make interviews relevant to the job and create a space for candidates to show their actual skills.
- What virtue did your parents instill in you as a child?
- What happened when you didn't do your homework in middle school?
Operations Coordinator
I sent in my application online on Aug 15th and heard back about a phone interview on Aug 19th. The phone interview was on Aug 25th, it was short, about 15 minutes, and they asked standard questions like why I wanted to work there and about my previous experience. A couple of weeks later, I got a call saying they were still interested but there wasn't an opening at that moment. Then, on Sept 21st, they reached out to schedule a school interview. I had a face-to-face interview on Sept 28th with the operations manager and principal; it was a 2:1 and lasted about 30 minutes. On Oct 2nd, I was contacted for another interview with a different school team. This second face-to-face interview was on Oct 6th with the operations coordinator, operations manager, and principal - a 3:1 that also took around 30 minutes. Finally, on Oct 9th, I was offered the position over the phone.
- What makes you prefer this particular charter school compared to others?
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with this company?
- Can you describe your previous work history?
Operations Coordinator
So before the interview, I had to do this Case Study where I had to create a system to track and manage different kinds of issues and needs. The actual interview had three parts: a quick intro, a part where they asked about my personal and professional background with specific examples, and then I had to present the system I made and answer questions about it. They put a bunch of us in this group interview, even though they said we weren't competing, which felt weird since we didn't actually do anything together. It seemed like they just did it to save themselves time.
- Can you tell me about two of your strengths and how they'd be useful in this job?
- Can you share an instance where you successfully built a rapport with a challenging stakeholder?
- Describe some feedback you were given. What did you do differently as a result?
