Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at StrongMind.
Software Engineer
We started with a take-home assignment, and then had two interviews. They asked basic questions to understand your background and see if you're a good culture fit. They also wanted to see if you'd talk a lot about something you're passionate about, and then they'd judge your merit based on that.
- What was your reasoning for selecting xyz language for the take-home assessment?
- Could you share something you are passionate about?
- Tell me about your background.
Software Engineer
I had an initial screening call, then a full-stack exercise to do at home and deploy online. After that, I had another screening call with some engineers where they asked behavioral questions and about teamwork. The last stage was an in-person interview where we did pair programming with engineers, focusing on the take-home exercise. The interview process was good, and I got a verbal offer, but it was rescinded because StrongMind's online school, Primavera Online, might be shutting down.
- How do you take constructive criticism?
- Do you like working on a collaborative team?
Software Engineer
I applied online through Linkedin. First, I had a 30-minute interview with a recruiter. Then, I received a take-home assessment that had no timer; they expected me to use GitHub and deploy it online using a free hosting service. Finally, there was a 3-hour in-person interview with two team members where we did pair programming on a feature to add to the take-home program. The interview process was enjoyable and the atmosphere showed they have fun there. Recruiters were nice and explained how they are into training new people. I felt like it would be a good place to work. Unfortunately, I didn't meet their expectations.
- What made you interested in working for Strongmind?
- Tell me about the pair programming on a feature you added to the take-home program.
