First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at STRIVE Prep.
Assistant Principal
You'll do a few classroom visits, then have a chat with the teacher to talk about what went well and what could be better. After that, you'll need to think about the conversation and get feedback from the interviewer. You might also talk to lead teachers and other administrators. It's a busy school day, so don't expect to be the top priority. Sometimes people at the school only find out about the interview last minute because HR and the school teams are separate.
- What were your observations from the classroom visit, and what opportunities for growth did you identify?
Operations Coordinator
I first had to complete a Skype interview which was extremely detailed and went through a broad range range of questions... Not just about the position but also current events. I then went on to an in-person interview with the principal and two different assistant principals. Plan for most of the day going to the in-person interview.
- Describe a situation where a colleague disregarded established procedures and how you addressed it.
- Can you share an instance of managing a team member who failed to adhere to protocol and outline your approach?
- What is your perspective on recent happenings in the news?
Campus Outreach and Engagement Manager
The interview was a recorded "virtual" interview, basically to nobody. It felt impersonal, like a tool to weed people out. As someone else mentioned, where's the part where I get to see if this is a good fit for me? That personal connection was lost. I was excited about the position, but thinking about it, I don't think I want to work for a company that can't spare the time for a more personal phone interview.
- Were there very specific questions about the position?
Instructor
Initially, the hiring process moved very quickly, but it soon became quite disorganized and disjointed. I was a bit surprised by the distant and cold demeanor of some of the professionals I spoke with, especially considering this institution claims a strong commitment to community and justice.
- What is your perspective on justice in education?
- Can you discuss your personal practices concerning justice?
- How do your personal identities relate to your views on justice in education?
