Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stripe.
Recruiter
First there was a 30 min recruiter screen, then a take-home task. After that, I had a 30-min chat with the manager. Then I interviewed with two functional leads for 30 mins each. The final round was a 30-min interview with a Business Lead which included a role play.
- Can you share an example of when you demonstrated key skills and competencies for this position?
- Tell me about a time when you demonstrated A.
- Tell me about a time when you demonstrated B.
Senior Technical Recruiter
Had two chats with Senior Recruiters, and one with a Generalist Recruiter. Then, there was a take-home assignment. Finally, wrapped up with four interviews: one with the Engineering Manager on stakeholder management, two with Recruitment Managers about delivery, and one with a Senior Sourcer focused on research.
- Can you share a challenging situation you encountered and how you handled it?
- Could you give an example of when you went above and beyond?
- What are your experiences in managing stakeholders?
Technical Recruiter
Stripe's interview process is pretty structured and they really dig deep. It started with a call from the Recruiter, Ashley, for an initial screen. Then I had a first round with another Stripe Recruiter. The final stage was a panel interview with 4 people, where each interview lasted 45 minutes back-to-back. The first interview focused on my overall experience, how I handle tough searches, diversity initiatives, my pitching skills for roles, and the types of positions I've supported. The panel interviews were tougher than usual. One was with a Recruiting Manager about being willing to be wrong and my motivation. Another was with an Engineering Manager where we did a role play of an intake call. I also spoke with the Head of Technical Recruiting about resilience and accountability. The last interview was with another Recruiter about collaboration and consciousness. I think it's great they're so thorough because it shows they're serious about hiring top talent that fits their culture.
- Can you walk me through your overall experience?
- How do you handle a challenging search?
- What's your approach to diversity in recruiting?
