The interview calls felt really short and the people seemed busy. The recruiter call was supposed to be 20 minutes but they were late, so I didn't get any info on benefits or other company stuff, just salary and bonus. Then I met the hiring manager, who was also late and rushed. We seemed to get along, and the hiring manager said my skills were a perfect match. But after I sent in a big project I worked hard on (a peer reviewed it and I spent time in their support portal like they suggested, all for a two-page submission), I just got a generic rejection with no explanation, even though I asked for one. The instructions for the project had a bunch of errors from the company's side, which made it funny when they talked about how carefully they evaluate candidates. This job has been open for a while, and it feels like the job market is really tough for candidates right now. I'd think twice about whether this job or company is worth the hassle, especially since they can't seem to find anyone after months of trying and they keep ghosting people, based on my experience and what I've heard from others.

Technical Presentation

This interview process demonstrated poor ownership and limited respect for candidate time, especially for a senior role. The process required six interviews, mostly 45 mins, and a take-home assignment involving original regulatory program design and board-level materials for a function that does not yet exist. The scope clearly exceeded a reasonable interview exercise and closely resembled unpaid consulting work, with no stipend, scope boundaries, or acknowledgment of effort. Interview execution was consistently problematic: rescheduling due to their conflicts, multiple interviews started late, and one interviewer failed to show up entirely, requiring rescheduling. These were not isolated issues and reflected a broader lack of accountability across the hiring panel. After weeks of engagement and significant time investment, the process concluded with a boilerplate rejection email and no feedback. For a company operating in regulated financial services, the lack of rigor, coordination, and respect shown in this hiring process was surprising. Senior candidates should carefully weigh the time commitment against the professionalism of the process. Overall, it was a massive waste of time and a ton of disrespect. Save yourself the headache and skip this one.

So after the recruiter called me first, I had an interview with someone on the team. Then I got a written project to do that had 4 parts. The next thing was the onsite day, which had different interviews. There was one on working with people, another on getting stuff done, one on operational stuff and a final one on delivering results. After all that, they asked for 2 references, like a past manager and a past coworker.
