Stripe Product Manager Interview Questions

I had a really strange interview call with a Stripe recruiter that I wanted to share. It was overall a very disrespectful, condescending, and uncalled-for experience. It's unfortunate that the company is developing this image and brand for their interviews. I'm submitting this for awareness so the company can coach their recruiters to handle these conversations with more grace and respect. Some key things I noticed: 1. The overall tone felt condescending and discouraging, not evaluative or constructive. 2. They mentioned that candidates who have already passed interviews at companies like Google or Meta are typically the ones who are a better fit for Stripe, implying that prior success at those companies is an expected signal of readiness. 3. They stated that my tenure at a tech company suggested I hadn’t interviewed elsewhere and therefore would likely not be a fit for this position. 4. They emphasized that Stripe’s interview process is tougher than Google or Meta’s, and that based on his assessment, I would not be successful in the process. 5. During a question about designing a system, when I began outlining my framework for approaching the problem, they interrupted and said I was not answering the question they was asking, and that based on my response, I would not pass the interview and that he did not want to waste my time. 6. They also commented that the fact I expressed confidence rather than fear or intimidation about Stripe’s interview process suggested that I did not fully understand the rigor of the process. 7. They asked whether I knew someone in Product at Stripe who could explain the interview process to me, implying that internal context or connections would be important for preparation.

The interview process had around 6 to 7 rounds. It started with a recruiter call, followed by a product sense interview, then the hiring manager interview which had standard behavioral questions. Finally, there were three product loop interviews. The product sense part was the toughest, but there are resources online to prepare for it.

The recruiter was fine, but the product sense interviewers (2 of them - one was the interviewer and the other was an observer) were inexperienced and expected standard answers. They didn't ask follow-up questions or probe any part of the answer. Their responses were often curt, and they seemed to have made up their minds from the start. It was not a good experience. Interviewers should be more empathetic and try to extract the information they need. Just because someone isn't from a FAANG company doesn't mean they don't deserve respect during an interview.
