Product Manager
The interview process was great because it was super fast and really showed what working there would be like. After I chatted with a team member, I got a take-home assignment. I loved the take-home, it was tough but totally like the problems I'd be doing on the job – a mix of strategy, product planning, tech problem-solving, and team culture. Then, I had several panel interviews with people from different departments (product, tech, partnerships, ops, customer support). We discussed a lot of stuff – critical problem-solving, how we work, my values, and more. The team was awesome, both with their questions and how they approached everything with empathy. I got the offer in just a couple of days. The whole thing wrapped up in 2 weeks, which was awesome!
- How would you handle a situation where you lack data to back up a new feature or a project you're involved in?
Head of CX
I first heard from the recruiter via email to arrange a phone screening. The phone screening involved some standard questions for initial interviews, discussing my background and current job duties. That went well, and then I was asked to speak with a panel of CX Leaders. Talking with the CX Leaders was great, they wanted to know about my personal interests outside of work, my leadership philosophy, my CX experience, and I got to learn about them too. This also went well and led to another round of interviews. This next round involved a few brief meetings with various Heads of Functions at Streamlabs, where we talked more about my experience and delved into questions about the Content Creation industry and its future. This was the last interview, and the recruiter got back to me quickly to go over compensation and the offer.
- What are your predictions for the future of the streaming space over the next few years?
Backend Software Engineer
It started with a standard HR call. Then I met with the HR manager for about 30 minutes. They then gave me an assignment to build an app showing Twitch user/stream statistics. After that, there was a 1.5-hour technical interview, followed by another 1.5-hour "follow-up" technical interview where they asked questions like "show me which line of code implements this feature" which I hadn't seen since university, I think they doubted I did the work myself. They said my assignment and tech interviews were great. The final stage was a 2.5-hour panel interview with 3 rounds, each with 2 interviewers. I felt good talking to them. I got rejected for not being a culture fit, which was disappointing given the feedback and the amount of time invested, especially since I really liked everyone I met.
- What would happen if an index was added to every column?
- How can a new column be added to a populated database without causing downtime?
- Can you explain dependency injection and its significance?
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process was practical and focused on real skills, not just LeetCode problems. It started with an Initial Screening to ensure basic fit, covering general programming, databases, and queries. Next was a practical Take-home assignment related to streaming statistics, with less emphasis on frontend skills. This was followed by the Main Technical Interview, where they discussed the take-home assignment and delved into system design and architecture without requiring live coding. Finally, there was a Panel Interview, which was more behavioral, focusing on situational and professional topics with PMs and other developers, indicating you were close to an offer.
- Tell me about database indexes, with a focus on composite indexes.
- Walk me through your take-home assignment and explain the reasoning behind your choices.
- Describe methods for optimizing backend performance.
