First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stop & Shop.
Overnight Stocker
I sent in my application and it took about a week and a half to hear back. Then they called me to come in for an interview. I went to the customer service desk when I got there. Since this was my first job, the manager didn't really have a lot of questions for me, they mostly wanted to get a feel for my personality. I was kind of nervous since it was my first interview and my answers were pretty basic. The manager seemed nice though and they asked me to do a background check and said they'd call me back tomorrow to bring in my ID and Social Security card.
- What was your previous occupation?
- What activities do you enjoy?
Warehouse Associate
The interview process for this Warehouse role was extremely negative. The facility has a terrible reputation for employee treatment, with accusations of inhumane conditions. Employees reportedly work long hours (13+ days) without adequate breaks, handle hazardous materials like feces and corroded produce without proper gear, and face a hostile work environment. The company is accused of violating worker's rights and threatening employees to prevent exposure.
- Does this business not feel ashamed of itself for the abusive employee treatment and inhumane conditions CEO perpetuates?
- Are you aware that workers are forced to work 13+ hour days without proper breaks?
- Are you aware that workers handle feces and corroded produce without standard protective equipment?
Stocker
I applied online for the Overnight Stocker position at Stop & Shop in Staten Island, NY. The interview was pretty straightforward. The manager talked about the union and how it operates, described the job duties, and asked about my availability. I didn't get the job because I wasn't prepared, as it was my very first job interview.
- Do you have knowledge of the union?
- Can you explain what the union is?
- What are your job responsibilities?
