Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stifel Financial.
Financial Analyst
The process was quite structured. The people were pleasant. They're searching for individuals who are very skilled and work efficiently. Having strong Excel skills is crucial to even get started. Make sure you're well-prepared.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered in your professional life and explain how you managed it?
Corporate Finance Analyst
The interview process was the most distressing experience of my life, almost abysmal when I reflect. It took the executive assistant 3 weeks of cancelling and rescheduling, multiple times to finally book an interview. Also, she was extremely rude over the phone. Finally on the day of my interview with the director, it seemed like she was just having a look at my CV that minute and within minutes came to the conclusion that I was unfit for the role. She raised her voice at me several times and belittled me every chance she got. She even went so far to say "what were you thinking applying to this role?!" and "you're a young bubbly girl, why don't you do something like sales? They are always looking for girls". Truly appalling.
- What recent news have you seen regarding Stifel?
Finance Analyst
First I spoke with someone to learn about the role and they asked typical behavior questions. Then I had two back-to-back interviews, one with the MD and one with the associate. My final interview was with another MD who asked technical questions.
- Regarding bonds, could you explain the inverse relationship with interest rates?
- What's your outlook on the market for the next six months?
- What factors determine a school line of credit?
