Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stifel Financial.
Analyst
I applied and networked with the team. First, I had a phone interview with a banker where we talked about my background, my interest in public finance, and basic finance concepts. Then, I had more interviews with team members. They asked behavioral questions, we talked about my coursework and internship, and they checked my knowledge of financial markets and municipal finance. It was a professional and relaxed process with both technical and behavioral questions.
- Can you summarize your resume for me?
- What makes you want to work for Stifel?
- What drew you to public finance over traditional investment banking?
Analyst
It was pretty straightforward. First, they talked about their own experiences. Then, the conversation shifted to my resume, questions about the role, and any other follow-up questions I had. We then scheduled another meeting to discuss the role further, and I eventually got an offer.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- Could you describe your key strengths and areas for improvement?
Analyst
The interview process was quite long, involving a phone screen and then three days of interviews. Compared to other banks I applied to, even those where I received offers, the people here were really friendly. My main tip is to really know the role you're going for, understand your motivations, and be able to explain in detail how your past experience aligns with the specific sector. The frustrating part was after investing about three days in interviews, I never heard back, which I found pretty rude.
- What's your motivation for applying to this company?
- Could you walk me through this project?
- What were your specific contributions to this project?
