It was a smooth and interactive process. They asked about my residence and how fast I could relocate. They also asked about my weaknesses, which I answered immediately as I know them really well.

This was one of the most disappointing interview processes ever, and I was really excited about the possibility of working at Steve Madden! Things were going well initially, but then during the recruiter call, I was asked if I was okay with having a direct report, which wasn't mentioned in the job description. When I spoke with the hiring manager, I asked about this, and their attitude shifted negatively. They curtly stated that I was mistaken and that if there was any management aspect, it wouldn't be for several weeks or months into the role. After receiving the rejection email, my request for feedback was ignored, even though I wanted to know if that was the reason I didn't get the job so I could improve. It was very disappointing that there was such a clear disconnect between the recruiter and the hiring manager, and it might have cost me the opportunity.

The interview process can change a lot based on the company, what industry it is, and the exact job you are going for. But I can give you a general idea of how it usually goes: Application: First, you send in your application, which usually has your resume/CV and maybe a cover letter. Sometimes, you'll need to fill out a form on their website too. Initial Screening: After they get your application, they might do an initial check. This is often a recruiter looking at your resume to see if you meet the basic requirements. Phone Screening: If you pass that first look, they might call you for a phone screening. This is usually a quick chat to go over your background, skills, and why you want the job. First-round Interview: Next, you might get invited for a first interview. This could be in person, on the phone, or video. You might talk to the hiring manager, people on the team, or both. They usually want to see how good your skills are, what experience you have, and if you'd fit in with the team and company culture. Technical/Behavioral Interviews: Depending on the job, you might have more interviews to test your technical skills, how you solve problems, or how you act in certain situations. These could involve solving problems, talking about stuff you've done before, or dealing with made-up scenarios.

So, when designing an interview process, we gotta do a few things to make sure we get the right person. First, we gotta really know the job inside out – what skills, what experience, what kind of person does well. Then, we'll look at resumes and stuff to weed out people who don't meet the basics. Maybe a quick call or video chat to see if they're even a possibility. If it makes sense, we might do some tests beforehand, like personality quizzes, tech exams, or ask for work samples. Then, we gotta prep the interviewers. We'll make a list of questions that are directly about the job and train the interviewers on how to ask them and what to look for. The first interview can be one-on-one or a group, and we'll check out their skills, experience, and if they'll fit in. For the ones who do well, we'll have a second, deeper interview. This might be with higher-ups or people they'll work with. Before we offer the job, we'll check their references to confirm their work history and how they behaved. Background checks might be needed too, depending on the job. Once we pick someone, we offer them the job, laying out all the details like pay and benefits. After they accept, we get them onboarded properly. We want this whole thing to be fair and legal, making it a good experience for everyone.
