First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stepan.
Chemist
Started with a recruiter phone screen. Then I had a virtual chat with the hiring manager. After that, I went to their office for a bunch of one-on-one interviews with different people.
- Tell me about a time a customer said you went above and beyond for them.
Chemist
It was a standard interview process. First, I had a phone interview, and then an onsite interview where I met with 4 other chemists and an HR representative. The interviews consisted mainly of technical and behavioral questions, which were relatively straightforward. They didn't include any 'trick' questions. The main focus for the interview team was assessing my personality and how well I would integrate with the existing team.
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded your job duties to complete a project?
Chemist
It took a few tries to connect with HR for the initial phone screening because they weren't very responsive. After that, there was a full-day interview process with seven people from R&D. I was told I got the job at the end of the day, but getting details about benefits, salary, and my start date from HR was difficult again, so I had to reach out to the hiring manager for that info.
- Can you tell me about your most significant innovation in the lab?
