First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stein Mart.
Merchandising Manager
The store manager and assistant manager asked me questions for almost an hour. They started by asking me to introduce myself and talk about my past retail jobs. Then, they asked about the duties I'd be doing as a merchandising manager at Steinmart. We also discussed salary at the end.
- What are your biggest frustrations in the retail industry?
- How do you handle situations where you need to reprimand an employee?
- Are you able to perform physical tasks such as climbing steps and ladders regularly?
Merchandising Manager
I applied online and got an interview set up pretty quick, within a few days. The interview itself was super short, less than 15 minutes, and the person was really nice and easy to chat with. I thought I might get the job, but then I realized it might not be exactly what I applied for. I asked if the position I wanted was open and they said they don't hire straight into it, which was a bummer 'cause it wasted my time. Still, a few days after the interview, I got an offer.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- Based on your work history, what experience do you have?
Merchandising Manager
It was a really chill interview. The manager asked me some standard questions about my past jobs. She wanted to know why I'm looking to leave my current role and what I enjoy most about retail. Then she told me about the job she needed to fill.
- Can you tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer and how you managed the situation?
