I had a panel interview with three people, and they asked questions from a preselected list, taking turns. There was also time for me to ask them questions. The interview covered basic qualifications, industry-specific knowledge, and situational/behavioral scenarios.

All state job interviews follow a consistent format, asking the same questions to each candidate with minimal follow-up. They feel very dry and not interactive. Interviewers must include a DEI question. Many questions are phrased as "tell me about a time..." scenarios. The first question is always "tell me about yourself and why you want this job." Each question is scored on a scale of 1-5, unless HR marks it as too subjective, in which case it's unscored without the interviewee's knowledge.

Tip: make sure your resume and cover pull in an appropriate amount of exact langauge from the job description. No HR prescreen call; contacted directly by hiring manager to coordinate interview. One interview only; virutal. 30 minute excercise at the start to prepare a presentation, then move into panel interview where you make your presentation. Heard back within 2 weeks of interview. They provide you the list of questions at the start of the panel interview in the chat.

I applied online and it was a straight forward process for the department of human services eHealth solutions, a regulatory branch for Medicaid. There were individual interviews with the manager, then another interview with the manager and senior data analysis where questions were asked. You have to take a skill assessment on coding where you explain the code they provided you with to gauge your understanding. You're also given a printed data table with errors and asked to find the errors and what you would do to clean the data. All explaining during the entire interview. Nothing is written or done on the computer. They are looking for your understanding of data clean up, data structure (uniformity), and any outliers (i.e. birthday that's "1863" which is impossible because the person would be dead.
