Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Starboard Cruise Services.
Sales Associate
So, it was before the pandemic hit. You start with an English test, then an interview with the agency via video. If they like you, you move on to the client interview, which is a full-day thing. It includes a group discussion, a role-play scenario, and then a one-on-one chat. They mostly hit you with sales-related questions, asking about your past experience and why you're keen on joining cruise lines. Things might be different now after the pandemic, so I can't really say for sure.
- What motivates you to seek employment with cruise lines?
Sales Associate
The interviewer had a horrible attitude, was negative and demeaning. She was the first impression of the company. I was really enthusiastic and hyped before the interview, but she managed to disappoint me so much.
- What makes you want to work for this company?
Sales Associate
I emailed a resume to an agency called "Cast-a-way" and got a reply two weeks later. The following week, I had a Skype interview with the recruiter, who then invited me to an interview in Toronto with Starboard. The interview itself was 8 hours long and included a lot of role-playing to see how we react in different situations and with each other. This was quite different from a typical interview. I found out a week or two after the interview that I was hired and needed to complete a medical. I paid $500.00 for it and got it done immediately, as the faster you complete it, the sooner you get an assignment. Three weeks later, I received an assignment and had to be in Italy within two days. You need to be prepared for a waiting period, but when an opportunity arises, you must be quick to accept and go.
- Can you sell this sunscreen?
- What else could you offer in addition to this?
