The hiring process was amazing. Everyone from the HR recruiter to the hiring manager and future colleagues was kind and communicative. The talent acquisition team was also thoughtful. Since I live out of state, I had to travel for the final interviews. My flight got canceled, but the travel coordinators were on it and worked hard to rebook me so I could still interview in person the next day. The interviews themselves were casual and informative about the program and job expectations. I applied on May 21, HR reached out on June 6, had an HR screening call on June 10, a HireVue interview on June 13, a hiring manager interview on June 18, and final interviews with the team on July 9. My recruiter called with an offer two days later, and I signed the offer letter on July 17.

It was a pretty quick process. After I applied online, I got a call for a phone screen within 3 weeks. The next interview was onsite about a week after that, and then I got an offer about 10 days later. The HR/Talent Acquisition people were really nice and helpful the whole time.

I had two screening interviews for this fully remote position before they invited me for an on-site interview. In the final week, I had virtual meetings with people external to the institution and then with operations, which were two extra days of virtual interviews separate from the on-site day. I flew across the country for the one day of interviews and met with 8 different people. In total, I interviewed 1:1 with 12 people. I found it particularly frustrating to have a remote meeting while on site, given the travel required. It was logistically and financially burdensome, especially with the extra childcare costs I had to pay out of pocket. St. Jude covered the flight and hotel, but there was no per diem. Some interviewers seemed unprepared, lacking questions or familiarity with my resume. The PI even joked that the process felt "mildly abusive," which really captured how exhausting it was. I mentioned my concerns to HR afterwards and was told they'd follow up after talking to leadership, but I never heard back. For such a tough process, especially for an entry-level role where I had over 15 years of experience, the rejection came via a generic thank-you email that I had to ask for after waiting over a week. I was shocked by how poorly HR managed the process and would warn candidates about the lack of respect for their time and effort.
